Dave Trott.

          Watford honour for Dave Trott.

Dave Trott's card from ex students.

Hot on the heels of the Oscars, the Brits and the Baftas, we have the Watfords.

A new award from The Watford Creative Ad School which recognises special individuals from the profession who have inspired our students and supported our programme over the years.

On the  evening of Tuesday March 3rd, dozens of ex Watfords, from virtually every agency in London gathered at The Yorkshire Grey.

Creative directors mingled with recent graduates, trading stories of their time at Watford as they sipped their glasses of rum and other dark materials.

At 8.00pm, the large throng left the pub and walked the few yards to Fallon where Dave Trott was giving a Q and A session to agency staff and current Watford students.

The reception of Fallon was soon filled with almost as many people as Leicester City get for home games.

Dave was stunned for a few seconds before saying, 'I see you've brought some more questions for me'.

After the initial shock of our arrival had died down I took to the floor to pay tribute to Dave Trott and to present him with the very first 'Watford'.

The Award, hugely overdue, was in recognition of the outstanding contribution that Dave has made to our teaching over the past 26 years.

He has delivered some incredible workshops for us since 1989, has motivated his creative departments to get involved with the course and has helped so many of our students get jobs.

Dave has made a significant impact on our thinking for over a quarter of a century.

He truly cares about the future of young people who are striving to get in to the advertising business.

There is no one more deserving of the inaugural Watford Award than Dave Trott.

'Thanks Dave' video clips were sent in from Brazil, The USA and Europe.

It was an amazing night. A one off. It was a highly emotional and incredibly memorable event, rather like the great man himself.

A big thanks to Nick Bell and Dan Watts, creative directors of Fallon, who hosted a wonderful night for us all. And gratitude to Matt Butterfield of Saatchis and Ben Brazier of WCRS who helped with the design of the Watford award and the card.

If there any ex students who wish to add a film or a note of thanks to Dave please send it to me and I will pass it on to him. tonyc@westherts.ac.uk
